[edit] Introduction

Citation happens via Cite.php (wikimedia) and templates. Cite and cite often. I'm partial to something approximating the Phys Rev style, but with titles and preprint information included:

Though the page number can come after the date,

  • P. A. M. Dirac, "Generalized Hamiltonian dynamics". Can. J. Math. 2 (1950) 129–48

If it's not available on the arXiv, rather than linking to a journal directly, use the DOI system if you can. E.g., use

dx.doi.org/10.1016/S0370-2693(98)00377-3

rather than

www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6TVN-3TTKSGB-J&_user=1022551&_coverDate=
05%2F28%2F1998&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=:c&_acct=C000050484&_version=
1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=1022551&md5=45f877117dcfdbe33b0ec38b283684e3

which places a lot of trust in a publisher not to change anything. Also try spires for additional sources of the paper like the KEK archive.

[edit] Wikipedia

Wikipedia articles can be referenced using Template:Wikipedia and Template:Citewikipedia, e.g.,

==References==
{{Wikipedia|Binomial series}}
<ref>{{Citewikipedia|Binomial series|2007|March|30}}</ref> <references/>

at the end of the page.

[edit] Templates

Citation is made easier by use of templates. For instance, we may say

<ref>{{cite journal
|author=Palash B. Pal
|doi=10.1088/0143-0807/24/3/312
|title=Nothing but Relativity
|journal=Eur. J. Phys.
|volume=24
|pages=315-319
|arXiv=physics/0302045v1
}}</ref>

Then later

==References==
<references/>
back to naming conventions
on to mathematics
Personal tools
