[edit] Subjects and subpages

Subjects like String theory contain subpages like String theory/string field theory which is linked to simply as String theory/string field theory. Pages can be nested as in String theory/bosonic string/conformal gauge/solutions, though this feature should be used with discretion. Root pages usually redirect to their proper locations, e.g., gamma matrices takes you to Quantum field theory/gamma matrices. Truth be told, I spend a good deal of time trying to decide where to put pages.

Generally, if an article doesn't make much sense outside of it's subject, e.g., Quantum field theory/LSZ formalism, then it should be a subpage. Sometimes an article may be common to many subjects, e.g., spinor, and so gets its own root page.

[edit] Subject layout

Here's a mock-up of what a subject page might look like. It is a good idea to conform to this structure, but leave out unnecessary parts.

Introduction
* Prerequisites

Main topic 1
Main topic 2=
Other topics
Related subjects
* Subject 1 (subject)
* Subject 2 (subject)

[edit] Categories

Things that seem to belong in many places may be placed into categories, e.g., Category:Manifolds and may belong to more than one category.

[edit] Priority

Different subjects and even fields will seem to have legitimate claim to a topic. In such a case, it might be prudent to have the same topic discussed in multiple places, with minimal overlap. For instance, the String theory article on AdS/CFT and the General relativity article on the anti de Sitter solution should reference anti de Sitter space (mathematics) for mathematical details. Likewise, anti de Sitter space (mathematics) should not get into detailed discussions about vacuum energy or causality, lest these topics become of interest to mathematicians!

[edit] Navigational templates

Navigating the material can be facilitated by placing links at the end of an article linking the article to prior or subsequent articles, for example:

produces the links seen at the end of this page. Links here are lowercase, just like normal wiki links, except when they link back to the parent topic, e.g.,

back to style
on to naming conventions
